Abstract

The Pinyuh River Estuary is one of the access routes for fishing boats, located in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. The estuary of this river experiences narrowing and shallowing due to sediment deposition, resulting in the fishing boats cannot pass through the estuary when the sea water is the lowest. This is caused by an inappropriate sea wall construction and hydro-oceanographic processes. The shipping channel for fishing boats becomes disturbed and experiencing obstacles such as grounding in the estuary. The bathymetric depth is only 0.2 meters in the estuary with the lowest tide. The current speed is measured by current meter and sediment samples are subjected to laboratory tests. The total transport of bottom sediment and floating sediment at the estuary is calculated using the LC Van Rijn method. The longshore transport sediment is analysed using CERC formula by knowing the refraction and breaking waves at the research location. The result shown that the shallowing of shipping channels due to the sedimentation is very significant. There are two options to solve this problem, i.e., dredging works and the coastal protection such as jetties.
