Abstract

Occupational safety and health (OSH) risk management research is common in industries such as construction, chemical production, electrical and electronic production. However, to date there is a lack of research performed on the OSH risk management related to shipyard industry. OSH practitioners often carry out audits by identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and to do preventive decisions to manage the risks. The aforementioned task is difficult to execute due to multiple influencing factors that affect the decision-making and this replies on OSH practitioners’ experience and knowledge. Thus, this paper reviewed a conceptual risk management framework which entails hazard identification, risk assessment, quantitative decision-making, risk control and ANN machine learning risk prediction. The framework methods were reviewed according to its characteristic, advantages, and disadvantages. The purpose of the review paper was to provide an overview of the methods’ application, impact, and effectiveness in developing a continually improving risk management framework to lower the risk exposure level of workers in the shipyards industry.
